Cambridge revisited

June is going to be ultra busy as the weekend after three events in Aberdeen sees me back at my old University and the West road concert hall for a recital- the same hall that I performed Brahms 1st concerto with the CUMS (Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra) when I was a student there in the 1980s- conducted by Matthew Taylor, now a well known composer. The programme is special to me in that it is an exact replica of one of the most inspiring recitals I ever attended- given by John Ogdon at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in May 1986 in which he played five encores after Busoni's Fantasia contrappuntistica, preceded by Chopin's thrid scherzo, the Dante Sonata, Beethoven op 109 and Bach C sharp minor Prelude and Fugue book one.
