This year's European EPTA conference is being held in June at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo from 25th June onwards and focuses on the folk tradition in western classical music. Norway is really beautiful at this time of year and I am very much looking forward to attending. June really becoming a month of revisiting old haunts, as after weekends in Aberdeen and Cambridge, this mid week trip is to a city I spent six weeks living in on that number of occasions to do recordings for Olympia CDS from 1988. It was the era when CDs were booming and record companies had huge budgets. I was barely out of university and thrilled with disbelief and wonder at the amazing opportunities to record all 9 Prokofiev and Myaskovsky Sonatas, as well as well over seventy minutes of Scottish Music in Oslo during a period of only 27 months. This visit is centred round the academy of music and I will be on the jury of a two piano competition for the first day, and also giving a recital with Scottish Music. Looking forward.
