Wonderful to pay a flying visit to The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow yesterday to support Callum (17) Rose (15) and Matthew McLachlan (16) as they performed their recitals as finalists in the first Scottish International Piano Competition Youth prize. They had a wonderful week on this fabulous summer school- bravo Aaron Shorr and Fali Pavri- and ended on a high with Matthew winning third prize in the senior category, (Scriabin 7th and Schumann G minor sonatas) Callum first prize (Grainger Rosekavalier Ramble Liszt Rigoletto paraphrase, Beethoven op 7 and Scriabin for the senior Moray Prize) and Rose first prize in the junior division (Bach Toccata and Liszt sonnet 123 for the junior Moray Prize). Additionally , Rose was presented with the Sam Hutchings Memorial Award for the best overall performance in both competitions. What an exciting day!
Here is a photo of the finalists and nine members of the jury- Norman Beedie, William Fong, Petras Geniusas, Bing Bing Li, Sinae Lee, Fali Pavri (chair) Jonathan Plowright, Aaron Shorr and Heather Slade-Lipkin. Huge gratitude to Dina Parakhina and Helen Krizos as well as to all the other amazing staff of Chetham's for supporting and developing our three young pianists over the years. I certainly shed more than a few tears whilst listening to them performing in my old workplace on Saturday!
